Ingredients
- 1 bottle dry red wine (e.g. Tempranillo, Garnacha)
- 200 ml orange juice (freshly squeezed for best flavour)
- 100 ml brandy or Cointreau
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 orange (sliced)
- 1 lemon (sliced)
- 1 apple (cored, diced)
- 1 peach or nectarine (diced)
- 500 ml sparkling water or lemonade (depending on how sweet you like it)
- ice cubes (plenty)
Directions
Prepare the fruit: Cut the orange and lemon into thin slices, dice the apple and peach. Place everything in a large jug or bowl.
Dissolve the sugar: sprinkle the demerara sugar directly over the fruit. Pour in the orange juice and brandy. Stir well to dissolve the sugar.
Add the wine: pour the red wine into the carafe and stir again. Leave to stand in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours (or better still overnight) to allow the flavours to develop.
Finish: Just before serving, add ice cubes and sparkling water or lemonade. Stir gently so as not to lose the carbonation.
To serve: Pour into glasses with additional ice and a little fruit from the carafe.
Recipe Note
Prepare the fruit and sugar the day before and let it steep in the fridge β this will save you time and give you even more intense flavours! Also, use a large carafe with a spout to make pouring easier.
